日本の死体の解剖率は２％であり、先進国中最低レベル。
それは「無監査医療」であり「無責任医療」につながっている。
死亡時には画像診断（Ａｉ）を導入すべきだ。
という極めて明瞭、かつ強いメッセージを持った作品だ。

広い視野から見ると、ＩＴ化の波が死因解明という領域にまで及んできた、
と捉えることもできるだろう。

本書は、構成の素晴しさにも目を向けたい。
奇数章が「白鳥室長と別宮さんのコント仕立ての会話」、（ユーモアと現状批判）
偶数章が「海堂尊の実証的・科学的な記述」（論理と提言）という組み合わせで
スローカーブと、剛速球を交互に投げ込んでくる。
（この絶妙な効果に注目！）

暗く重たいテーマであるが、ユーモアに救われる。
論理的ではあるが、先を急ぐことは決してない。
読後感は爽快ですらあり、メッセージも心に響き続ける。
久々にパーフェクトゲームを見た感がする。見逃す手はないと思う。

現代の日本において、死因の特定が
極めてずさんであることの告発と、
それらを解消するためのAiシステムの啓発の本。

日本の解剖率は２％。
明らかに不審な点があるとき以外は、強制力をともなった解剖ができないため、
グレーゾーンの場合は、体の表面を見ることで、死因が特定されている。
遺族感情としては、やはり解剖には抵抗を感じる。
そこで著者が勧めているのが、Aiシステム。
MRIやCTなどの機械を使用した画像診断で、死因を探るもの。
症例によっては、解剖が必要な場合もあるが、
体表を見るだけではわからないことが、手早く、安くわかる、ということです。

実際、Aiを利用することによって、当初いわれていた死因と異なる死因が
発見されたこともあるようです。

内容は図表や、
著者の小説「チームバチスタの栄光」の登場人物が行う対談のおかげで
医療問題などにうとい人間にもわかりやすく読み進められました。

「死因不明社会」というタイトルに先ず「おやっ！」と感じてしまいます。何故なら、「死亡診断書」が必ず書かれているからです。でも、これがかなり危ういということが序盤に延々と書かれています。
解剖率２％、Ａｉで診断した結果が初期の死因と食い違っていた率が２０％と聞かされると、「えっ！」と驚いてしまいます。
確かにこれでは「死因不明社会」です。

この本は啓蒙書には違いないのですが、「チーム・バチスタの栄光」の探偵役である厚生労働省官僚白鳥圭輔室長に時風新報の記者別宮葉子がインタビューすると言う形で書かれており、シナリオを読むような感じで読むことが出来ます。
そのため、非常に読みやすくなっており、難しい事柄も噛み砕いて書かれているというのが特徴です。

この本を読んでいて、すぐ頭に浮かんだのは、大相撲時津風部屋で起こった新弟子の怪死事件です。
ついこの間、親方以下が逮捕されましたが、この事件についても触れられています。

知らないことがいかに恐ろしいことか、を知らされた一冊でした。
