坂井 三郎
1916年、佐賀県に生まれる。青山学院中学部を中退し、1933年に海軍に入る。戦艦霧島、榛名の砲手をへて、1937年に霞ヶ浦海軍航空隊操縦練習生となり首席で卒業、戦闘機操縦者となる。初陣の1938年以来、九六艦戦、零戦を駆って太平洋戦争の最後まで大空で活躍。200回以上の空戦で敵機大小64機を撃墜したエース(撃墜王)。2000年9月逝去(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

世界中で英語などに翻訳されて出版されている大空のサムライシリーズの下巻です、やはり実際に零戦に搭乗した坂井三郎の戦記は一味違います、読んでるうちに勝手に想像してしまうのですよ。「なるほど、こっちからグラマンがきてこう攻めたのか。」などと勝手に想像しつつ読んでいるわけですが、いつの間にか理想の人になってしまいました。将来自分もこんな風に立派な人になりたい！と思わせる力があるのでしょう。とくに片目を失いつつも戦列に復帰して１５機vs１機での壮絶な戦いの所には興奮してしまいました,,,,特攻出撃に坂井が行くときもやはり極限状態に追い込まれた人間の状況が生々しく書かれています。あまりに素晴らしいので友達に大空のサムライシリーズを全部薦めています、最後は衝撃的な終わり方で物足りない気もしますが、自分はこのシリーズほど衝撃を受けた本はありません。しかもただの戦記ではなくかなり今の生活に人生に役に立つ本だと思います、ちょうど自分ぐらいの年から海軍に入ったのかと思うと、この差をどう考えてよいのかわからなくなります。

あとがきに代えて、を読み丁度悩んでいた今の私を勇気づけてくれました。

「戦いの常として、こちらが辛い場合には向こうも辛い。
　辛い、辛いと思っているときには戦闘は互角である。
　むしろこちらが勝っている場合が多い。その辛い最後の一瞬を、
　必ず勝てるという信念で頑張り抜いた人が、空中戦においても敵に勝つ人
　であって、その苦しい最後のときにヘタばった人が、必ず落とされる運命にある。」


これは、サムライが空戦に学んだ自己制御として、
巴戦で敵戦闘機と一騎打ちをする際に、最後に頼れるのは
自分自身のみであることを振り返っているくだりです。

もはや精神論以外の何物でもなく、今時・・・なのかもしれませんが、
私はそうは思いませんでした。これは自分を信じること、頑張り抜くこと、
その先に道が開けることの真理だと思います。

辛いときこそ、冷静になるべきだとは、いろいろな悩みを抱える現代の社会人
にも、きっと勇気や救いの一言となると思います。

戦争を美化することでもなく、むしろその虚しさをサムライは伝えています。
戦記というよりは、もっと深い心構えを教えてくれる本です。

　戦術論（机上の空論ではなく）ではなく､いちパイロットとして、一対一の戦闘における飛行機乗りの極限状態など、生身の人間がいかに戦ったのかが克明に記されてある｡
　世界の名パイロット達も認める坂井さんの本。幾つもの死線を潜ってきた者にしか分からない事がある｡これは普通の人では決して書けない内容だ｡どんな差し迫った事態でも､そこを潜り抜けてきた人たちの告白は実に鮮明で説得力がある。
