著者紹介

1953年、群馬県に生まれる。北海道大学農学部を卒業。地方公務員勤務を経て、校正者となる。校正歴17年。辞書から書籍、雑誌（男性誌、女性誌、車情報誌）、旅行パンフレットまで幅広い内容をこなす。校正をしていると、しっくりこない表現にたびたび出会う。辞書を引くと言葉の意味は載っていても、日本語としての正しい使い方かどうかはっきりせず、とまどうことが多々ある。そこで現代作家の作品にあたり、用例を自分で集めはじめ、それが本書のもとになった。

「質問する」とはいうが「質問を尋ねる」というのは正しい組み合わせだろうか？

『新明解国語辞典』、『新潮現代国語辞典』、『学研国語大辞典』、『大辞泉』、『現代国語用例辞典』・・・いずれをみてもわからない。

が、この辞典を見れば、「質問を尋ねる」という言い方があることがわかる。さらには、「質問をぶつける」、「質問を浴びせる」、「質問をはさむ」･･･難しい表現ではないが、ぱっと頭に浮かばない表現を簡単に見つけることができる。

このサイズではやむ得ないことだが、例文はごくわずか。しかし作例ではなく文芸作品からの実例であるところはうれしい。

拡充を願いたいところだ。

なんとか上手く文章を書きたければ、やはり読書量を増やし、文章の中から言いまわしを学ぶのがいい…それは重々承知しているのですが、私は買いました。「今さら…どれだけ読めばいいんだ！間に合わないよ」「分かっているけど、今はとにかく書かなくてはいけない」という方にはオススメです。
ただし、言い回しの意味までは書かれていません(ある名詞と動詞を組み合わせても名詞の意味が分からないと国語辞書を引く必要が出てきます)。あくまでも文例の本なので仕方がないですし、そもそも意味が分かっていて使う本ですから困ることはないと思いますが…。

私は大学時代にこの本を知ったのですが、高校生あたりから持っていても良いのではないかと思います。小論文が受験科目のとき使えますよね。大学ではレポート、卒論などを書くのに使えます。

減点★１つは既に他の方が書かれているように「例文が少ない」ことです。

文章を仕事にしている人から勧められ、これはいい！と思って購入したのですが、意外と使い道がなく、宝の持ち腐れになっています。
まだ、自分が使いこなせてないだけなのかなぁ・・・
ただ、暇な時にぱらぱらめくって読んだりするのは、結構勉強になるし、楽しいですね。サイズの小ささも、そういうときには◎。
