没落した領主の娘メイヴェは、新たな領主トゥルベルク家によって軟禁されていた。ある日見張りが姿を消したのを機に、運よくつかまえた旅人を騙して町を出て行く計画を立てる。メイヴェはルーフィスとディアンという二人の旅人を脅迫し、トゥルベルク家の者が住まう城へと盗みに出かけることになる。

第11回ホワイトハート大賞『期待賞』受賞作ということなのですが…前半主人公に好感を持てなかったので、読み進めていくのに苦労しました。後半になるとまだマシなのですが、最初の頃は本当に高慢で自分勝手なお嬢様です。ストーリー的には可もなく不可もなく…さらりと読み流してしまいました。今回がデビュー作ということですので、今後に期待といったところでしょうか。

後書きからいつも読む方なのですが、デビュー作にしてこの貫禄には味わい深いものがありました。必読です。
