弓構え（ゆがまえ）
打起し（うちおこし）
引分け（ひきわけ）
会（かい）
離れ（はなれ）
残心（ざんしん）

これすべて通して、射法八節といいます。
弓道をやるときに必ず教わる、大事な基本の型です。

この物語の題材は弓道。
中学校の弓道部を舞台に、悩みながら上達していく三人のおはなし。
私も高校時代に弓道をやっていたので、懐かしくなりながら読みました。

弓道は個人競技というイメージが強いですが
実際には3人チームの団体戦もあり、一緒に射る仲間の影響がとても大きいスポーツでもあります。
そして大会などで勝敗をきめたりはしますが、本当の目的は的にたくさん矢をあてることではない。
この小説の中の説明を借りると…「真なるものは善であり、美に通じる」。
正しい型は美しく、そして結果として的に吸い込まれるように当たるものなのです。
弓道の言葉でいうと「真善美」。そして「正射」。そこに到達することこそが目的です。

この小説の中で、三人が向かいあっているのは
目に見える形としては大会で戦うほかの生徒でありながら
射形を乱す自分の心であり、正しい形を維持できない自分の肉体であり
日々淡々と続いていく自分と戦い。
物語としてはちょっと地味…大きな盛り上がりはないのですが
みんなの心は、熱い！
なんとも静かなスポコン小説なのです。


それにしても、中学校に弓道場があるとはうらやましい…。
大人になるとなかなかできる場所もないですし。
日本が誇る伝統スポーツとして、もっと身近なものになると良いなあ。
