はやみねかおるさんの最新作。
定年退職した元小学校の先生が奥さんに昔の子供達のことなどを話し、奥さんが小さな謎をといていく・・・・・・一風変わった設定ですが読み始めると止まりません。
はやみねさんが小学校の先生だったということも影響しているのでしょうか。
定年退職するまでは仕事ばかりで家庭をみれなかった元先生。ゆっくりと奥さんに話しかけ嬉しそうに聞く奥さん。とても微笑ましいというか、心がホッとする物語です。
誰が読んでも楽しめる一冊になっています。

　小学校の先生を四十年近くしてきて、定年退職してから十年が経つ「わたし」。歳は、七十歳くらいかな。＜ようやく、「先生」から「ふつうの老人」になってきたような気が＞する「わたし」が、妻を聞き役に、昔、学校であった謎の出来事を語っていく、そういう話が全部で五つ。第一話「消えた靴」からはじまって、「スイカ泥棒と花火」「先生には見えないこと」「肝（きも）だめしの夜」「給食、好きですか」まで。梅雨から夏まっ盛りにわたる五つの話を、前後の「プロローグ」と「エピローグ」が虹の架け橋のように繋いでいると、そんな構成になっています。

　教師だった頃に体験した話を語るうちに、「わたし」は妻に、隠れた才能があったことに気づきます。観察眼と推理する力に秀でた探偵としての才能、それが妻にはあった！　小学校の先生として四十年間、生徒と一喜一憂してきた「わたし」と、その背後に寄り添いながら、「わたし」のことをあたたかく見守り続けてきた妻。語り手の「わたし」と聞き役の妻を結ぶ心の絆、信頼関係が、ふたりの会話の端々から伝わってくるんですよね。そこにほっこりとしたあたたかさがあって、何度か目頭が熱くなりました。
　「奥さんが探偵役として魅力的な国産ミステリっていうと、そうそう、芦原すなおの『ミミズクとオリーブ』（創元推理文庫）があったっけ」と思い出したのですが、あのほっこりした味に近い温かみを、本書にも感じました。

　あと、いくつかの話の中、謎解きにつながる箇所で、次の名文句が脳裏をよぎりました。シェイクスピアの『マクベス』に登場する三人の魔女の台詞。
＜いいは悪いで、悪いはいい（Fair is foul, and foul is fair.）＞（小田島雄志訳）

　とまれ、語り手の「わたし」と同じく、小学校の先生をしていた著者ならではの愛すべき作品。安楽椅子探偵（アームチェア・ディテクティヴ）ものの連作短編ミステリとして、これ、いいですよ。

A Kid's Review
とても楽しめました。はやみねさんは、子供の気持ちを動機などにしたり、…とにかく自分たち子供にとってとても尊敬できる作家さんであり、その人の新作なんですから読まないわけにはいかないでしょう！！

その内容としても決して不満のあることはなく、これは子供だけでなく教師や大人にも読んでもらいたいと思いました。
