相変わらずキャラクターのやり取りがうまいです。謎めいた雰囲気もよい。けれども、なんとなく不完全燃焼のままカタルシス不足で終わってしまった印象が否めません。バッテリー最終巻と同じように明確な答えが与えられていないだけで、いくらでも解釈のしようはあります。作中にあるとおり『答えを望んではいけない疑問がある』のかもしれないけれども、私としてはもう少し明確な答えがほしかった。

実はこれまであさのあつこの完結した物語を読んだことがない。「バッテリー文庫版」（角川文庫）と「ＮＯ．６」（講談社ＹＡ）の続刊を待望中の身なのである。そんなところに舞い込んだ１冊の本。それが本書だ。新刊も良いけれど、続きが読みたいという複雑な気分で読み始めたのだが、すぅぅぅと物語の世界に吸い込まれてしまった。主人公の中年男は連れ込み宿で娼婦を殺害し車で逃走している。数日前に事件を起こした彼はいつ警察に捕まってもおかしくはない。月夜の晩である今、走っているのは故郷に近い山間部の道。そこで不思議なヒッチハイクをする羽目になる。謎に満ちた少年と幼いおかっぱの女の子。「女の子を家まで届けて欲しい」と少年は言う。少年は女の子の兄ではないようだ。ではいったい誰なのか？　道連れが出来た男はこれからどうするのか・・・。あさのあつこの新境地をごゆっくり堪能あれ。

何と言うのだろうか。この感情を言葉にすることに、強いジレンマを感じる。
あさのあつこさんの書く文章は、文字や行間の間から滲み出る色っぽさがある。
この本もそうだった。俗っぽいいやらしさなどなく、彼女は性を鮮やかに印象付ける。正体不明の少年・白兎の持つ少年らしさと、不似合いな大人びた部分。そのギャップ、ふとした仕草や感情が、下手な官能小説よりは余程艶やかに感じられるのである。

彼女は、少年を描くことに長けている。

少年を『脆く、美しいもの』と語る彼女の本には、まさに彼女のその考えが反映されているのだろう。この本に限らず、彼女の描く少年たちは、どこまでも美しく、脆く、そして艶っぽい。
それが魅力なのだろうと、私は思う。事実、そこに惹かれて、私は彼女の本を手放せないのだから。
