「お父さんはお父さんをやめることにした」
家族３人の揃った朝食の席での唐突な父の発言から、この物語は始まる。
　それは、少々ユーモラスであり、コミカルなファミリーストーリーの始まりを予感させるものであった。

　けれど、物語は読者の予想を裏切り、坦々と家族の心の闇を描き出していく、瀬尾さん独特の瑞々しい表現で…
教師を辞め薬学部を目指す父、
幼い頃より何をやらせてもトップクラスで、天才の名を欲しいままにしながら、大学進学を辞めオーガニックな農場で働く兄、
ある事件をきっかけに家を出てひとりアパート暮らしをしている母、
そして、家族の中では比較的に平凡に見える妹の目からストーリーは語られていく。
おのおのが家族の中で役割を果たしつつ、歯車となってバランスを保っている平和な日常が、
ひとつの歯車の摩耗から、少しずつそれぞれに影響を及ぼしていく。
　重いテーマを描きつつ、読後感は爽やかでこれはまさに瀬尾まいこ氏独特の世界だ。
後半のエピソードは胸が詰まり涙があふれた。　１０代の頃のように泣ける感性を呼び起こしてくれる一冊だった。

久しぶりにいい本に巡り会えました。
ここの評価をみるとイマイチなのかな?って思ってたんですが、いざ読みだすと止まらなくなりました。

読み終わると、なにか伝ってくるものがあります。
是非、読んでみて下さい。

この話を読み終えたあと、なんかふんわ〜りとした気分にさせられました。家族の日常が描かれていて、とてもいぃ。言えば、リアルなのかもしれない。最後の方で涙がこぼれ落ち、最後の最後で、笑顔があがる。それまでは、何でもない、普通な感じだけど、ビックリする展開が待ち受けていた。心の中は、すっごく温まり、“自分の本”として、大切にしようと思った。宝物にしようと思った。普通に読んでいき、読み終わったら、表紙の絵を見てください。「あぁ〜、なるほどネ」ってきっと、つぶやきたくなりますから！！家族の心温まる支えと、日常風景がうつし出され、この本から教わるコトが、きっとあります。
『どんなにつらい夜でも、朝は必ずやってくる。』
―これが、この本のキャッチフレーズです。　私は、どんな暗闇からでも、希望の光は必ずある、というふうな意味をとらえました。
