前作「海の仙人」の余韻が消えることなく残っていたのか、思わず手にした本でした。
書評の純愛に関しては、これがまさに純愛だと思う人もいれば、こんなのは純愛では無いと思う人もいるだろうし、各人のとらえ方によって異なってくると思うので、この作品＝純愛とは、言えない様に思う。
しかし、この作中の男女には、まさに絶妙の距離感が有り、二人の不即不離の関係がたまらない感を与えているように思う。
互いの存在が互いの心の片隅で、常に消えることの無いものとして色濃く描かれていて、作中脈々と流れている。
前作「海の仙人」でも感じたが、この作家さんは、人と人の距離感を実に上手く描く人だと、改めて感心させられた。

　「袋小路の男」は、一人称視点で世界を描ききっている。感情の過剰も事実の欠落も含めて、「わたし」から見た世界を余すところなく描いている。「わたし」という不思議な女と小田切という不思議な男との摩訶不思議な関係に、納得してしまった。
　約束事・タブー・距離を守って正しく続ける一風変わった男女関係。そこらにはない関係だからこそ、大切なものなのだ。よくある男女関係になだれ込むには惜しいのだ。どちらも多分、それがわかっている。だからどちらかが一歩踏み込むと、どちらかが一歩引くのだ。
　「小田切孝の言い分」では、同じことを二人視点にして客観化している。これも面白い。「袋小路の男」で、たぶん自分に都合の良い記憶だけをつなげているのでは…などと読者として裏を読んでいたことが書かれているが、その分普通である。
　文体としては「袋小路…」の方がずっとずっとカナシイ。

　「アーリオ　オーリオ」もいい。この作家は自立した孤独を美しく描く。それが星の世界の静けさとあいまって、つきぬけるような静けさを感じる。

　好きだなあ、この文体。他の本も読もうっと。

”純愛”小説とは違うと思うが、正統派の恋愛小説だと感じた。一人の男を一途に思い続ける女と、思われる小説家崩れの男の心のひだと。うまく描いてあると思う。主人公に同化していくことは出来ないけれど、「そういう恋もあるんだろうな」という共感を持った。

他の方も述べられているが、最後に収められている「アーリオ　オーリオ」は佳品。抑制された文体と、中年男の姪っ子に注ぐ愛情が微妙な形で表現されている。
