　なんだか、とてもリアルな世界と、地に足のつかないふわふわとした世界が渾然一体となった小説。
　子供こそまだいないが、主人公の房子と宗二、３０代の夫婦は仕事もある、家もある、親もいる、平均的な夫婦である。ところがこの夫婦、拠り所がないというか読んでいて頼りない。お互いの信頼も生活の密度も、人が居てそこで泣いたり笑ったりしているという“温度”がどうにも伝わってこない。
　それでいて、房子の実家の父母の言葉、一挙手一投足はさもありなんというほどに、とてもリアルなのである。
　宗二の母に至っては現役ばりばりの「人生」に前向きな人物像だ。
　
　自分たちなりの解釈なしに結婚して、行き場のない思いにとまどう３０代の夫婦と、６０代の、世間並みかそのちょっと上の生活を手にすることを目指して、黙々と営んできた生活を疑うこともない夫婦の対比が、とてもおもしろい。

　宗二が会社の近くに自分だけの安アパートを借りて、一人安らぐ居場所を確保するのは、夫婦間の愛とか信頼感が希薄で、家庭というものに自分が属しているという観念がないからだ。
　房子にしても、宗二の母の前では「嫁」という役割をしっかりこなせるのに、その役を降りている時はふらふら出歩き、自分の在るべき場所を探したりする。
　家族、親族の中の役割はすごくうっとうしいけれど、ある意味、好むと好まざるとに関わらず、自分というものをしっかり繋ぎ止めるロープのようなものなんだなあと、再認識させられた。
　「庭の桜」は家族のシンボル。幸せの証。……これが親世代。「隣の犬」は飼うことの煩雑さを省いたお手軽な、気分だけの借り物。これが房子たち。
　結婚という問題の、“答え”に正解はないのかもしれない。相手にとまどい自分にとまどう房子と宗二。ラストシーンの房子の心中は、どうだったのか？もの凄くあれこれ考えてしまい、なかなか頁を閉じられなかった。

30代の子供無しの夫婦宗二と房子
住宅ローンを組みマンションも購入した二人は、世間から見たら夫婦だ
でも、宗二も房子も夫婦という実感を抱けてない
出会いから結婚までのプロセスを覚えてはいるが、世間の夫婦と比較すると
自分達が夫婦でいる意味を見出せずにいる
そんな中仕事が遅くなるからという理由でアパートを宗二が借りる
根無し草のような二人は夫婦としてどうなってしまうのか・・・
宗二・房子を交互に物語が進む
二人の結婚生活の行方が気になりながら、二人を取り巻く環境に気を揉み
かつ、親戚付き合いに一喜一憂しながらすぐ読める
夫婦や家族は、恋愛と違いやっぱり「営み」だから日々の生活では埋没される
そこに、非日常の儀式が絡む時、家族は結束し、皆それぞれの役割の顔を受け持つ
結婚に迷いを感じたり、自信が無くなりそうなとき読むと背中を後押しして
気持ちを軽くしてくれる本に感じた

作者の小説をいくつか読みましたが、
イチバンのめり込めた作品でした。

３０代子なし夫婦の心理描写は、
「ああリアルだ」と思わせます。
３０代でも夫婦でもないんですけどね、私は。

話的にはハッピーでもないのですが、アンハッピーでもない。
ビミョーっちゃビミョーです。
でも、ゆるいんだかきついんだか、
きっちりと判別できないあたりが、そそられます。
なぜなら、それが日常を生きるってことだ思うので。
