　『ムーミン』シリーズを漠然と読んでいた子供の頃は、やんちゃなムーミントロールの冒険や、飛行鬼の魔法に憧れ、大人になって読み返した時は、作品全体に共通するどこか寂しい雰囲気や、リアリストで毒舌家のちびのミィがお気に入りでした。アニメの影響もあってか、私の中で、ほのぼのとしたファミリー向けの『ムーミン』としての虚像が一人歩きする一方で、作者が描きたかった本当の『ムーミン』像や世界観を、本書の解説は、もう一度再確認させてくれました。特に後期の二作品『ムーミンパパ海へ行く』と『ムーミン谷の十一月』は、各キャラクターの静かな内面の成長物語として、『ムーミン』が単なる児童書の範疇を超えているものだと納得が行きます。本書の位置づけを、初めて読む人への入門書以上に、再読するための参考書ととらえたほうが良いかもしれません。

　「ムーミンの深層心理を読む」というので期待して買ったのですが、ちょっと的外れ。
　全シリーズ9冊の一つ一つについて章を作り、解説しているスタイルです。
なので、その各章の最初に、そのあらすじが書いてあるにもかかわらず、
内容の進め方は本の筋を追いながらの説明なので、くどい感じがするんです。
　言い方は悪いけど、子供の読書感想文みたいな感じです。
「誰々がこうしたらこうなった。それはこうだからだ。次に誰はこうした。
それはこうだったからだ」という感じ。
　コミックの方は一切出てきません。あくまで童話シリーズに関してのみの説明です。
　本が好きで「よく」読める人ならば、特にこの本でムーミンを読み返す必要はないと思います。

　なので、星２つでもいいのですが、ムーミンは好きなので３つにしました。

　この本が良いのは作者の感想文集ではないということ。評論集といった方が良い。

　『ムーミン』の原作者、故トーベ・ヤンソンと親交があり、彼女の作品の邦語訳も行ったことがある冨原氏が、例えばムーミンの作中世界と、当時の時代背景を、あるいは、作中世界と作者ヤンソンの置かれていた状況を関連付けて考察しており、ライトな文体の中にも、かなり深い内容が盛り込まれている。文学作品としての『ムーミン』に触れたい人には、格好の参考書となる。
