■猫好きのみなさんなら、本屋に立ち寄ったとき、ちょっとあたらしい猫の本はないかな、と密やかな期待を持って本棚を探されると思う。

■そんな僕も、昔は断固とした犬派だったのだが、ふとしたことから、猫と一緒に暮らし始めることになって以来、なんともしなやかな知性を持っている(と思っている)猫という不思議な生き物について人並みならぬ関心を持ち続けている。

■それにしても僕の大好きな世界的画家である＜藤田嗣治＞と＜猫＞の世界・・・そう、ここには130匹余の猫と女性を異国で描きつづけたFujitaの別世界があった。

■あなたとFujitaと猫とのすてきな出逢い・・・
そう、これは画集『素晴らしき乳白色』では見られないFujitaの”もうひとつの世界”に、きっとあなたは魅了されると思うのだ。

06年8月藤田嗣治の回顧展が広島県立美術館で開催され妻と寄ってみる。NHK日曜美術館でも取り上げられていたが、どの絵もとても興味深く有意義な時間だった。会場の出口で絵葉書と我が家の老猫フウに似た絵がたくさん載ったこの本を求めた。細やかな線で表現された体と表情は油彩というより日本画を見るようでいい。また、さりげなく挿まれた藤田の文章なんかでフランスの猫の様子が垣間見えて、気に入りました。

藤田嗣治の猫が好きなあなたに送るのにぴったりの本です。値段も厚さ重さも手ごろですし、猫好きの人のプレゼントには最高の本になること間違いなしです。藤田嗣治がとても猫好きであった証拠の写真が、この本にあります。
