　「はいけい。ぼくのキュートナ」で始まるキュートナへの手紙とキュートナへの言葉が対をなす１５通の手紙集。

　キュートナって、動かない時計をしている。メガネをするとキリッとしてみえる。あるいてて、急に立ち止まる。よわよわしいけど、ちからもち。へんなぼうしがにあう。さむがりなのに、つめたいものばかり飲む。子どもよりもっと子どもっぽい、絵を描く天才。あれしたい、これしたいって、いつもいう・・・。

　キュートナって、誰？キュートナって、具体的な人物像とか浮かばないけれど、「ぼく」にとって特別な存在だってことは分かる。「ぼく」が心底愛しているってことも分かる。
もしかしたら、キュートナって、荒井良二さん、あなたのことかしら？
「きみが描く絵ってスゴイね。子どもよりもっと子どもっぽい。天才だよ！」という言葉が胸にキュンと来る。自分の中にいるもう一人の自分にこんな手紙が書けたらいいな。自分のことをこんなに愛せたらいいな。

　子どもよりもっと子どもっぽいけれど、スゴイ絵と愛に満ちたユニークな言葉、最初は、手紙だけを読んで、次に言葉だけを読んで、その次に手紙と言葉を比べながら読む。そして、絵だけを見る。いろんな楽しみ方ができる一冊。

こんなに愛に溢れた絵本があったなんて。

男子高校生諸君。
もし偶然にもこのレビューを見たのなら
好きな彼女にこの絵本をプレゼントしよう(笑)

僕が高校生のときに
この絵本の存在を知っていたら
きっとそうする。

いや、もちろんこの絵本は
高校生に限らず、多くの人に読んでもらいたい。
荒井良二さんの絵本だからこその表現である。
