　この物語は、１４歳の中学２年生坂井知季、１７歳の高校２年生沖津飛沫、同じく１７歳の富士谷要一、この三人が「ダイブ」という世間から見れば少しマイナーな競技に全てを賭けて挑んでいく過程を描いている。高さ１０メートルの飛び込み台から、時速６０キロでダイブ。その間わずか１４秒の空中演技に自分たちの積み重ねてきた力の全てを出し切って、限界を超えた一瞬にあらゆる思いを込めて、飛び込んでいく。今年はアテネでオリンピック、この中に何人の知季、飛沫、要一がいるんだろう。たった一つのスポーツの頂点に立つために、いったいどれだけの汗と涙を流したことだろう。

　「ダイブ」の中でも、この主人公三人が麻木夏陽子というコーチと出会い、やがてはオリンピックという目標に向かって、時には友として、時にはライバルとしてお互いに成長していく姿に心打たれる。

　僕は「ダイブ」を読むのはこれで二度めだ。初めて読んだのは去年、小６の時、図書館に予約をして、「今か今か・・」と待ち切れない思いで読んだ。そして今年、どうしても手元に置いておきたくて、アマゾンで取り寄せてまた読んだ。何度読んでも感動は色褪せない。絶対お薦めの本だ。
　中１の今、僕にとっての「ダイブ」は何なのか、探してみたい。

児童文学ということもあり、設定、ストーリ、名前に至るまで分かりやすい。
いい大人にはそこにかったるさを感じるかもしれません。
それも、１巻の初めのうちだけ。
人の体の柔軟さ、水や空の匂いや、飛込み競技への神秘的にも感じる興味を持て、
登場人物の葛藤にのみこまれ、２巻を読む頃には、夢中でした。
一気に全巻読み終え、所々涙が出そうになりました。
小さい頃の不安定ですっぱい優しい気持ちを思い出し、
いつでも海パン脱ぎ捨てられる大人でいようと爽快な気持ちになりました。
読んでみて下さい。

水泳競技の中でかなりマイナーな競技、「飛込み」を舞台とした、
森絵都さんの「スポ根」小説。

スポ根なら、この本を手に取る気が起こらないという方、
絶対に後悔しますんで、読んでみてください。
たしかにスポ根ではあるけれど、
一部の漫画にあるような一方的で場違いな熱血ぶりではない。
主人公の坂井知季は、「飛込み」と関わりながら、
何かを捨て、何かを得るという、私たちが絶対に通らなければならない、
取捨選択の道を歩んでいきます。と同時に、彼は人間的にも成長していきますし、もちろんそこには、魅力的でそれ故に角張ったライバルたちも出てきます。
でも、「飛込み」というスポーツがメインの軸としてあることは間違いないので、スポーツ小説はちょっと・・・・・・という方は、やめた方がいいです。
題名にある「ＤＩＶＥ！！」。
私たちが生きている限りし続けなければならない「ＤＩＶＥ」を、
知季の背中は教えてくれることでしょう。
