文章力は素晴らしい。
が、野性味、ワイルドさと自己中心的、利己的な幼稚さ、勝手さをはき違えた勘違い中年女の物語…という感じがして、最後まで主人公の気持ちに同調することができなかった。自意識過剰なところにも閉口。また、内海の「こんな奴いない」と恥ずかしくなるほどハードボイルドな設定にも退いてしまった。不倫の果てに長女が消えた、という設定は面白いと思うのだが…。
OUTのようにラストに向けての失速が激しくなく、総じて面白かったとは思うので、時間の無駄とは思わないが。主人公の性格が、もう少し正常に内省的な部分を持っていればなあ…。

　読み終わった後でどっと疲労感が出る、とにかく重たい小説。
ただのミステリーじゃなくて人間模様や暗い感情を堪能したい人向けですね。
徹頭徹尾太陽の気配のしない、暗く寒く、今にも雨が降り出しそうな雰囲気でした。


なにが気分悪いかって、只のフィクションじゃなくてモデルの事件があるっていうのが
救いが無い。

終始自分だけを哀れみ、自分を埋める存在を求めるため
失踪した娘を探す主人公に、娘への悔恨を見出すことはできない。
彼女が感じているのは、唯一自らへの同情なのだ。

作品としては一貫して主人公に寄り添う形で描かれているため、
主人公の魂の放浪とやらがまったく心に染みず、
やりきれない気持ちと腹立たしさだけが残った。
筆力はあるのだと思う。しかし、それで描かれた心象は
おぞましいの一言に尽きた。そうとしか感じ取れなかった。

世界に絶望して、孤独を埋める術を探すほどに賢しくもなく、
物語の裏側で潰えていったであろう存在が不憫でならない。
あんな風にしか扱えないなら、生まなきゃいいのに。
