大東流合気柔術は、会津御式内と呼ばれた秘密の武術で、小柄でなければ奥義に達することができないといわれる。佐川宗範（総師範）は謎としかいえない魔法のような合気技をあらわす日本唯一の武道家である。

【佐川幸義（さがわ・ゆきよし）】
大東流合気武術宗範。1902年、北海道湧別生まれ。11才で大東流・武田惣角に入門、1932年には、惣角より代理教授を許される。以後、助教として全国各地を惣角とともに回る。長い修行により、師を越えたと言われている。現在は東京郊外の小平市にある自宅内の道場で指導している。

全力で押さえつけても投げられるなんて、別にあたりまえです。
もし、この本を読んで佐川門下以外の合気道場がインチキであるかの様な
誤解をされると困ります。著者は私の他流の先輩ともいえるので。
但し、触れただけで吹っ飛ぶなんていうのは
間違いなく佐川幸義先生だけの技であろうかと思います。
他流批判めいた雰囲気は確かに感じる内容なので、他流の方は気分を
害されるかもしれませんが、貴重な資料として敢えて目を通してみても
いいのかもしれません。面白いかどうかは別です。

大東流や合気道において一番重要なことは、本書にある「本気で頑張らせて技を効かせられるか」だと思います。佐川道場だとかよその道場だとかは関係なく、それを追求しようと思えば本書に書かれていることは具体的に書かれていなくても、とても心に響きます。
自分にとっては聖書です。

武道をやっている友達に無理やり貸されて読んだ本です。しかし・・・これは面白い。合気道の起源になっている大東流合気柔術。明治の武田惣角氏、そしてその元で合気を極めた佐川幸義氏について、よく分かりました。

また、植芝盛平翁との関係や、佐川氏の弟子の門下にいた極真の大山倍達氏の話など、今日本にある武道や、格闘技といわれるものの、原点が見えるとところが面白かったです。

植芝氏のことは、あまりよくは書かれてないですが、その門下の塩田剛三のビデオを見て、「すごすぎる」と思っている私としては、佐川氏や武田氏が、いわゆる想像の域を超えた"達人"であったことが、容易に想像できました。
