著者紹介

明治40年1月11日、新潟県小出町に生まれる。本名・山内庄蔵、のち結婚し藤野姓に。高等小学校を中退して上京、逓信官吏養成所に学んだ。17歳で印刷製本業を始め、昭和8年「大衆倶楽部」を創刊し編集長に。山岡荘八の筆名は同誌に発表した作品からである。13年、時代小説『約束』がサンデー毎日大衆文芸に入選、傾倒していた長谷川伸の新鷹会に加わった。太平洋戦争中は従軍作家として各戦線を転戦。戦後、17年の歳月を費した大河小説『徳川家康』は、空前の“家康ブーム”をまきおこした。以来、歴史小説を中心に幅広い活躍をしめし、53年9月30日没した。

山本五十六が、戦前申出た“半年や一年は暴れて見せます、その後はわかりません”と断言したように、フィリピン・マレー・ジャワ島では快進撃となるが、その後東京大空襲・ミッドウェイ作戦・ソロモン諸島ガダルカナル島では悲劇が始まる。
ガダルカナル島での悲劇などは、このような悲惨な状況で戦っていたのかを知り、皇軍として日本軍人の誇りや意気込みを強く感じた。
我々が義務教育の中で習ってきた事は何であろうか、平和学習など戦争体験者個人話を聞く機会はあっても、その時期の政治・外交・世界情勢等は個人で学ばなければ、知ることもないし、知らされる事もない。また戦争の話はタブーという今の状況がある。
またそれぞれの国の主張があるのは当たり前で、もちろん戦争は絶対にやってはいけない行為であることもはっきりと言える。
それと共に日本が敗戦したという事実以外を(なぜ戦争をしなければならなかったのかなど）知るべきであると思うし、国外だけではなく、日本国民に伝えなければならないと思う。
そうしなければ、今の日本人に誇りも持てないし、いくら愛国心といえど全く意味のない教育になると思う。
教科書等記載が困難であれば、国がメディアに依頼しこの小説をもっと紹介したり、現在の作家皆様で、みんなの目にとまるよう太平洋戦争関連作品をご提供して頂きたい。

教科書ではさっくりと終わる近代史。
とりわけ戦争などに至ってはあっさり終わり、熱心に教えるのは左巻きの先生が教える「いかに日本は過去に間違いをおかしたか？」という捏造史。
この小説はあくまでも「小説・太平洋戦争」ではあるが、個々の出来事については多少の演出や脚色があろうと史実であろうことは疑いようもない。
多少「日本は・・・であったのだ・・・・・。」と陶酔気味の表現が気に掛かるが、その捉え方はひとそれぞれであろうと思う。
ただ一方的に非難される「大東亜戦争」であるが、その裏で何が起こっていたのか？
マスコミの偏向報道や村山談話、河野談話に惑わされず別な視点からみて自分の頭で判断してほしい。

闇雲に戦争反対を唱えるだけでは平和は達成出来ないのだ。
