子供の頃プレゼントされた１冊。大人になってもう１度読む価値がありました。しずかに始まる物語のなかで、ムーミン一家の周りで起こる不思議な出来事を通じて、それぞれのキャラクターが生き生きとえがかれています。テレビアニメで見た人も多いはず。原作にふれると、もっとしずかで心地よい魅力をかんじられると思います。子供はもちろん大人も読める素敵な本です。 作者のヤンソンさんは今年亡くなりましたが、彼女のしずかな生き方も垣間見られると思います。

　ムーミンシリーズを初めて読む方は　まず本書を手に取るべきだ。

　ムーミンシリーズの登場人物がきちんと出てきているし　他のシリーズ作に時折見られる　奇妙な暗さも無く　誰もが楽しめるように出来ている。

　話は　魔法の帽子に始まり　最後は帽子の持ち主が念願のルビーを手に入れるところで終わる。魔法の帽子が起こす　数々の魔法は　楽しいし　しかも　なんとなく教訓も入っている点も悪くない。そう　子どもの頃は　そんな教訓からも学んだのだと思うのだ。

　別のシリーズ本のには　ムーミンは子どものためだけではないと書いた。その思いは　本書に関しても変わらない。但し　子どものためになるということも確かだ。本書を思い出し　このレヴューを書くにつれて　その思いは強くなった。

本を読むことが非日常への旅だとすると、これは旅をさせてくれる本です。
