「重要なのは、自分にはどういう宿命が与えられているかだ」
人は宿命をもって生きている。
刑事になった男と医者になった男。そして女。宿命は悲しく降りかかる。
最後に待っている意外な結末に驚かされる。そして全ての謎が解ける。
与えられた宿命をいかに生きていくのか。
ちょっと心の痛くなるところもある作品。

読むにつれて、最後が知りたくて知りたくて仕方なくなる作品です。
夜寝る前に読み始めて、結局読み終わるまで寝ることができませんでした。
巨大企業が必死になって隠したい過去の大きな陰謀が何か動いているらしいという問題と、
会社のトップがどんどん殺されてしまう事件とがうまく交錯していてそれだけでも推理小説的に面白いのに、

傍から見れば人がうらやむような結婚をした女性が、結婚前に唯一愛した男性と突然再会し、
主人に対する気持ちが揺らいでいくのかどうかという心理的な面もあり、より面白さが増幅されていた気がします。
ちょっとトリックを欲張りすぎて全体的に突飛な事が多いと感じられる方も多いかもしれませんが、

あまりまじめに考えずに素直に読んで見るととても面白いと思います。

この作品は私が読んだ東野作品の第一作目でした。

ミステリーを読み始めたばかりなのですが、そろそろ東野さんにも挑戦してみようと思い書店へ。「『秘密』『白夜行』そして『幻夜』につながる…」と帯に書かれていれば、読まないわけにはいかないでしょう！と思って読みはじめました。

第一章を読み終えた時点で、「これは純粋な犯人を探すミステリーなのかな？」とふと思いましたが読んでみると全然違いましたｗ

タイトルである宿命の名の通り、主人公の警察官勇作と、容疑者であり旧知のライバルであった晃彦を中心としたドラマが展開され、最後にはいくつも張られた伏線がピーンとつながり、スッキリ！とても練りこまれた作品だと感じました！

ただ、読んでいて思ったのは、登場人物がやたら多いことと、昔の事件と今の事件がコロコロと前後すること、あとこの作品がもう２０年近く前の話であることから若干の読みにくさはありました…

ただ本当にラストに向けて上手く作られているのでそこまで読みにくくはなかったです♪

伏線の張り方と、犯人探し以外のトリックの仕掛け方。次の東野作品への期待を大きく膨らませてくれる作品でした！！
