原田宗典というと，「スバラ式世界」みたいに軽いエッセーや，おしゃれな短編小説を書く，若い女性が読む作家・・・というイメージが一般的だと思うが（そう思ってるのは俺だけか！？），私にとっては「スメル男」の作者，である．文庫版の初版当時高校生だった私は，強烈な印象の導入部を立ち読みし始めたら止まらなくなってしまい，やむを得ず買って帰ってテスト勉強を忘れて読みふけった．ノンストップで最後まで引っ張られるジェットコースター小説だ．

その後「青春と読書」に「平成トムソーヤー」の連載が始まったのだった．．．この２冊，高校時代を思い出しつつ，久しぶりに読み直そーっと

最初に手にとった時には「スメルって何？」位の気持ちで、本の趣味が合う友達が勧めてこなければ読むことは無かったと思います。ところが・・・読んでいくうちに止まらない。夜中なのに止まらない。内容を事細かく書き記したい位ですが、たぶん自分自身の目で見るのが一番です。ここで言ってしまうのがもったいないです。私は今二十歳ですが、こんなに印象深く、心に余韻をくれた作品は自分の中では稀です。こんな素晴らしい小説に出会えて良かった。多くの人に読んでもらいたい！

その臭いは周囲１０ｋｍに及び、対面させる人を嘔吐させてしまう程。
ストーリーは途中から大きく動いていきますが、
最後には感動しました。
作者の力量に脱帽。
青春小説といっていいのかな。
軽い感じなので、短時間で読むのにお薦め
