ローラの夫アルマンゾの少年時代の物語です。4人兄弟の末っ子のアルマンゾは色んなことを学びながら成長していきます。両親の留守に兄弟たちは、母親に「食べ過ぎてはダメ」と言われた砂糖でアイスクリームを作り、砂糖を使い切ってしまいます。心配するアルマンゾに姉のイライザが「母さんは全部食べてはいけないとは言わなかったわ」と言うというちょっとクスっと笑ってしまうシーンがとても印象に残っています。他にもアルマンゾが自分で育てたカボチャを品評会に出す話など様々なワクワクする話がいっぱいの楽しい物語です。
