目立って超有名！！という作品が収録されているわけではありませんが、いずれもはずれのない短編集です。お茶の時間や、電車の中でも気軽に手にとって読めるのではないでしょうか。

文庫、ハードカバー共に収録作品に違いはありませんが、私はこちらのハードカバーバージョンをお薦めしたいです。
何と言っても見た目が可愛らしい(^-^;)ので・・・
ムラカミ作品ではおなじみの佐々木マキさんの表紙・イラストはもちろん、ケースから取り出した時に見えるきれいなイエローの本体や、真四角に近い形がポップな印象を強めます。
価格的には確かに文庫よりお高いですが、手元においておきたい１冊。

知名度では「ノルウェイの森」や「風の歌を聴け」に劣りますが、ぼくはこの作品が村上作品でいちばん好きです。
淡々とした「読ませる」独特の文体、比喩表現の圧倒的な巧さ、全体に漂うスタイリッシュで気負わない雰囲気が非常にいい。

他作品で見られる氏独特の「カッコつけ」も抑えられてて、好感の持てる一冊です。

　村上春樹の　充実した長編小説や　端正な短編小説集に比べて　本書での村上は　実にリラックスしている。軽い話をさらりと書いているだけだ。村上春樹の初期の短編集であるわけだが　当時の村上春樹のエッセンスに満ちている。そう　村上春樹は　お洒落で　スタイリッシュで　カルトな小説家だったのだ。

　
　今の村上春樹を知っている我々である。ノーベル賞すら噂される文豪になった村上春樹だが　このカンガルー日和を読み返すと懐かしいものがある。これを読んでいた２０年前を思い出す。喫茶店に一人で入って　ぼんやり本書を読むことが素敵だった事を思い出す。あれから　小生も遠いところに来てしまったと感慨にふける。それも人生か。
