むらの多い村上龍の最高傑作。圧倒的なストーリーテリングには感嘆するしかない。彼の持つ資質が最高に良い方向に花開いている。それにしても　ここで頂点を極めた村上龍は　その後　長い長い低迷に入っているというのが　小生の偽らざる村上龍感である。是非　これを乗り越える作品を書いて欲しい。

村上作品特有の、どろどろとした喉の奥に絡み付いてくるような文章はもちろん。この作品の評価すべきところは主人公２人の距離間でしょう。上下巻一気に読めば分かりますが、始めはキクとハシの描写が長く間隔を置いて書かれていますが、後半部分に向かっては互いの描写が知らず知らずの間に入れ替わり村上ワールドが広がっています。2人についての描写の間隔を詰めていくことで、そこに2人の距離感がリアルに生まれてくるのです。本当に、それに気がついたときは鳥肌が立つ勢いでした。「ライン」でのリレー式な描写も興味深いですが、『距離感』がこれほどリアルに浮き立たせるなんて本当に素晴らしいと思います。

　コインロッカーに捨てられた、という傷を持つキク。しかし彼は傷を癒してくれる人や共同体を探したりはしない。それらは、傷を癒したようにごまかしたり、束縛や圧迫による新たな傷を作り出すだけだからだ。だから彼は東京を破壊する。トラウマから自由になるために。自分を傷という檻に閉じ込めようとする世界を、人を、全てのものを破壊する。
　違った方向から自由を求めるキクとハシが最後に重なるその瞬間までが鮮烈に刺激的にシャープに、圧倒的なスピード感で描かれている。
　純粋で無垢な、そして美しく力強いエネルギーを感じて、掴み取れ！
