やってることはおもしろい。
こんな風にしちゃってどうオチをつけるのかという点に読者の焦点が移っていくタイプの構造の小説でした。
もっとも、終幕は結構多くの読者の見当の範囲内のものになってしまったのではないかと思います。
いつもの西尾節は堪能できるので、維新好きの方は損したような気持ちにはならないでしょう。
まぁ、このシリーズは好きなので次回策に期待とかです。
終始上から目線で御免。

「君と僕」シリーズの３作目は黒猫と様刻のロンドン珍道中と思いきや・・・。結局、キャラ萠え小説になってしまっている．第１作めがすばらしかったので、どんどんレベルが落ちていることが残念です．

『世界シリーズ』3作目，『メフィスト』2008年5月号に掲載された作品です．

作品全体に何重と張り巡らされた『仕掛け』がなかなか凝っており，
その少し不思議な感覚の中で綴られる，珍道中（？）が楽しみどころ．
先行掲載時に『番外編』とあったように，これまでとは違った雰囲気で，
過去作のような『重さ』はなく，血なまぐさい事件もほとんどありません．

ただ，『仕掛け』以外の印象が今ひとつで物足らないところが残り，
そのため，お得意の掛け合いや言いまわし，キレイに落ちる結末など，
まずまずに楽しめはするものの，無難というか『いつもどおり』の印象．
これがシリーズ完結後なら，また違うふうに読めたのかもしれませんが…．

また，『仕掛け』自体も，はじまってはやいうちに語られてしまうため，
それ以降，結末までもなんとなくに想像がついてしまうのは残念なところ．
小説や作家について語らせるくだりも，好みがわかれるところだと思います．

先行掲載時との違いは表紙と扉絵と後書のみ，書きおろしはありません．
なお，前作の後書では本作で完結する旨が語られていたかと思うのですが，
その後，五部作完結へと変更，続刊は08年11月，09年05月の予定だそうです．
本作がこのような『番外編』になったのは，もしかしたらそのへんの影響かも？
