『月刊少年シリウス』で連載されていたものをまとめた作品です．

登場人物や館の名前など，著者らしいセンスは相変わらずですが，
それ以外は控えめで，全体的に落ちついた雰囲気が印象に残ります．

また，作品自体もどちらかといえばミステリっぽくなっていて，
さりげなく，またいかにもと，散りばめられていた伏線の数々は，
ページが薄い割にはまとまっていて，ひっくり返る終盤もなかなか．

ただ，トリックなど，物語の真相についてはやや無理があるようで，
有名な手法ですし，読み返してみれば確かに間違っていないのですが，
「やられた！」となるか「うーん…」となるか，意見がわかれそうです．

また，『トリプルプレイ』も『助悪郎』も，実際にはほとんど触れられず，
タイトルからその言葉や人物に期待をしていると，少し肩透かしを食うかも．
これがシリーズ作のひとつなら，また違う印象もあったのかもしれませんが…．

ほかでは，表紙以外に1枚もイラストが入っていないのがちょっと残念でした．

久々の、西尾維新推理ものです。
丁寧に仕上がっていると思いますが、その丁寧さが逆にインパクトを弱めてしまっている気も…。
しかしやはりうまい、と唸らされました。

最近は刀語や化物語などの非推理系作品で活躍中の西尾さんですが、この作品は久しぶりの推理モノです。
戯言シリーズ初期や「きみとぼくの壊れた世界」などと同じ要素が満載です。
具体的にいえば、分かりやすいトリックを読者が驚くように用いたりや、終盤でのどんでん返しなどです。
2段組みで170ページと、コンパクトに纏まっているので簡単に読めます。
同じくJDCトリビュートである「ダブルダウン勘繰郎」とのつながりはありませんので、こちらから先に読んでもまったく問題ありません。
お勧めです。
