~　中編の作品集。久しぶりの火村シリーズです。読了後の感想としては、私としては消化不良なポイントはいくつかありましたが、ミステリの好きな作家のミステリと言った感覚で、好感は持てます。個人的には長編がやはり面白いと思います。有栖川先生は長編のプロットの方が優れていると感じるのは私だけでしょうか？
　これから読んでみたいと思っている方に~~は読みやすい作品集だと思います。~

綺麗にまとまっているとは思うのですが、「おお！」みたいな盛り上がりにちょっと欠けるかな、と思いました。でも理屈は通ってるし、火村と有栖の会話は好きなので、読んでいて楽しかったです。
詐欺と紙一重のロジカルさは極めてミステリらしいと言えるのかもしれません。

しかしロマンチストですよね！(笑)文章飾る飾る。砂漠をさまよえる助教授が見た蜃気楼は、儚く消える幻ではなく遠くにある現実の写し絵でした。そうして砂漠を行くしかない火村の心情を有栖川は思うけれど、あいも変わらず火村先生の「人を殺したいと思った」話はまったく進みません。そこを読みたいのにぃ。

ハズレではないので、キャラクターがお好きならどうぞ。

　国名シリーズの８作目。４編が収められている。
　冒頭の「助教授の身代金」がなかなかの出来。着想が卓抜で、真相に興奮させられた。国名シリーズでは久しぶりの傑作だろう。ショートショートの「推理合戦」の馬鹿馬鹿しさも良い。そのほかの２編も悪くはない。
　一時、かなり質を落としていた本シリーズだが、ここに来てだいぶ復調してきている。『英国庭園の謎』あたりで読むのを止めてしまった人も復帰してみてはどうか。
