あらたなる下僕となった本島氏の視点によって薔薇十字探偵団、唯我独尊・神にも等しき探偵榎木津氏の活躍（というより事態を更に悪化させる様）が語られています。

3話共に明快な勧善懲悪の物語ではあります。
すっかり下僕が板についた（前職が刑事とはとても思えない）益田、典型的一般的市民の本島の情けなさぷリ、それとは対照的に榎木津は自らの身をもって悪を殲滅、中善寺は悪魔的策略をもって懲らしめます。
暗さは微塵も無くニヤニヤする事必至。

「五徳猫」では「絡新婦」のオッチョコチョイ女、「雲外鏡」ではお馴染みの刑事、「面霊気」ではお馴染みの中善寺を取り巻く面々、と京極堂シリーズを通読してきた読者はここでもニヤリ。

特筆は「面霊気」。終盤では榎木津の意外な一面、そして今まで名前だけは再三再四出ていたあの人がとうとう登場します。
この点に於いても購入価値はあります。

妖怪シリーズの番外編的存在である「百器徒然袋　雨」に続く第２弾です。
前作に引き続き薔薇十字探偵社の面々やその他おなじみの人々が暴れまわっています。
本編の陰鬱さやあの長さが苦手という方も安心して下さい！
本書は中編が３本収録されており、どのお話も痛快で後味爽やかな、笑いが止まらない程楽しい作品になっています。

個人的には前作（「百器徒然袋　雨」）より全体的に話が小粒になったかな~とは思いましたが、ラストでこれまでにない一面が描かれていたので嬉しかったです。

３０歳代になっても、変わらぬ青春時代をおくれたら。永遠の青年たちの友情の物語。京極夏彦の卓抜な仕掛け！当代、他に比肩する者のいない手腕の冴え。自分をごく「普通」だと思っていた、ひとりの青年。彼が「普通」という「仮面」を剥いでいくまでの波瀾万丈の物語。好漢、榎津礼二郎の大暴れが、酷暑の夏に、一陣の爽快な「風」を吹きこんでくれます。読後感が、とても良い中編集です。仕事に疲れている中年のビジネスマンに、すすめます。クラブ活動に夢中になっていた、若き日々の活力が、よみがえってくるかもしれませんから。
