推理小説としてはあまり面白いとは言えない。

だが読み終えた後でストーリーすら忘れてしまう本が多々ある中で、これは読み終えた後も何故か心に残る作品だ。
作中作が交互に織り込まれもはや何が物語の本筋で何が作中作なのか分からず読者は迷宮に迷い込む。この構成を得ただけでも本書の価値は高い。

本作品は、筆者の20台前半の作品。新書版では、表現の手直しがあるとはいえ、若いエネルギーが十二分に発揮されている。小説中小説の手法をとり、読み手の頭を十分に混乱させながらも、最後まで読ませるのは、そのエネルギーゆえか。良くも悪くも、奇書のもうひとつである虚無への供物を十分に継承している。最後のページにいたってもなお、新たな展開のありそうな流れは、「推理小説＝読後すっきり」という私の考えの浅はかなのを指摘しているのか、それとも、だから奇書なのか、単に詰まらん本だったのか、・・・それすらわからなくなる。もうすでに私は、作者の「密室」にとらわれているのか。お気楽には読めませんでした。

　眩暈を呼び起こす作品。
　メタメタメタの連続であり、その幻想的パワーは伊達じゃない。
　しかし、登場人物に魅力がイマイチであり、肝心の謎解きはあれれな感じ。
　ドグラ・マグラには及ばないだろうか。２１歳でこれを書いたのは凄まじいと素直に思いますけどね。
　ただ、これなら舞城王太郎の九十九十九や麻耶ユタカの夏と冬のソナタ、小川勝己の眩暈を愛して夢を見よなどのほうが数段面白いと思う。
