落語というものにほとんど縁がないのですが、本として読んでこんなに面白いものだとは思いませんでした。
日本語っていいなあとしみじみ感じました。
どれも面白いのですが、中でも「厩火事」のおかみさんの威勢のよさと天然ボケに大家さんののんびりした合いの手が大好きです。

粋な江戸の風情と日本語の楽しさを楽しめる本当にすてきな一冊です。
今度ぜひ寄席にも行ってみたいと思います。

普段、落語はあまり身近でないかもしれません。寄席を見る期かいも、近所に劇場があれば別ですが、ビデオ屋さんで映画を借りてくる様にはいきませんよね？けれど、少し落語に近づいてみると、日本人の独特な人情やユーモアに触れる事ができて、落語が好きになるかもしれませんよ。

　落語というものは至高の舞台演劇であり、話術であり、いわゆる標準語の骨格をなして
いたり、と奥行きを論じれば、それこそ途方もない代物。落語は話し言葉でこそはじめて
生きるもので、テキスト化することに抵抗を覚える人もあるだろうし、それも確かに一理
ある。口述伝承のすばらしさもその通り。
　それでもこの本は面白い。
　古典の古典たる所以のひとつは、あまりに類型的で、けれども、相当に的を射た人間描写が
あるからこそ。これを偉大なる文化遺産と呼ばずして、他に何をそう称そうか。
そんな史料の一つにさえなってしまうのだから、落語にはただただ驚かされる。

　主な収録作品は「明烏」、「厩火事」、「時そば」、「芝浜」、「寿限無」、「子別れ」。
　いずれもあまりに有名な21篇を収録。
　個人的には、特定の噺家の癖が中和されている分、話し言葉が滑らかに書き言葉へと
溶かされており、読みやすいように思える（もちろん落語家さんのテキストを否定する
つもりはありません）。
　その面白さは折り紙つき。
