著者の各思想家への解釈は良く言えばユニークだが往々にして牽強付会で且つ政治的で余り好きではないが、このデカルト論は日本の哲学解釈の中では白眉ではないかと思える。こう読まなくては、デカルトは必然的にお蔵入りになってしまう。著者は若い頃から文学の解釈では動物的な勘ともいえる鋭い指摘で並外れていたが、哲学の場でそれが改めて証明された感じだ。「他者」の問題よりも、自分としては、その裏側にある「単独者」の問題が非常に魅力的に感じた。もう一度キルケゴールをきちんと読めそうな気がしてきた。「他者」論は見事な指摘で、一瞬の「異質感」というあの感覚を指しているわけで、これを従来のｺﾐｭﾆｹｲｼｮﾝ論や相互行為論に取り込んでしまっては実も蓋もない。しかし、現実の生活からいうと、むしろ著者の指摘は当たり前であって、あまり革命的な感じは無い。安穏と権威の中に居ると想定される一部の大学人にはショックかもしれないが、現場の人間は日々否が応でも「他者」に直面せざるを得ない。まさに毎日が、この商品は販売契約が成立して初めて100円なのだ、という「命がけの飛躍」の連続だ。「時代の診断」まで出来なくても、何がしか新しい視座を示すことが人文系の作品の優劣を示すとすれば、如上の理由から、本作品の線の細い点は否めないと思う。

　「話す-聞く」という関係は対話（対関係）ではなく、ただの自己対話＝モノローグ（独我論）であり、プラトンの弁証法以降、哲学はすべてモノローグとして「他者」をその視野に収めてこなかった。
　本書は「教える-学ぶ」関係（ヴィトゲンシュタイン）、あるいは「売る-買う」関係（マルクス）によって見出される「他者の他者性」を問題にする。
「他者」とは私と言語ゲームを共有しないもの、共通の規則を持たないもの、つまり規則の外部のことである。

　他者との間に横たわる深淵が「命がけの飛躍」によって飛び越えられたあと、我々は規則を事後的に見出すのであって、最初に規則があり、それに従うことによって関係を持つことができるわけではない。関係をもつこと、これこそが（それ自体盲目的な）命がけの飛躍なのである。
　本書では述べられてはいないが、例えば、「私は勇気ある者であるか卑怯者であるか」は、私にとっては決められず、他者に判断を仰がねばならないという意味で私は他者に隷属している。「私は誰であるか」という認識は全面的に他者に依存している。私と他者は同等ではない。
　ところが、私と他者が同等とみなされた途端、つまり私と他者に共通の規則が「でっち上げられた」途端、だからそれは関係を持つことができた途端、私は他者を私へと回収してしまい、その結果他者の他者性は隠蔽（あるいは抹殺ないし排除）されてしまう。同時に他人にとっての他者である私の他者性もまた隠蔽される。要するに、そこは外部などない、一つの閉じられた全体（共同体）となり、そこでは対話は成立しない。そこでの議論はたかだか「我」を「我々」に拡張しただけの独我論にすぎない。

コミュニケーションを考える際、参考にしていきたい思考である。

日本で他者論に関する書物は多いが、どれも歴史的な概観をまとめたものが多い。実際に自分自身の新しい観察を加えたものとしては本書をおいて他に少ない。ヴィトゲンシュタイン哲学をさらに深く考察し、マルクスの資本論に見る「命がけの飛躍」という考え方を導入していて、面白い。
