1926年神奈川県に生まれる。東京文理科大学卒業。駒沢大学教授。文学博士。主著は『緯書の基礎的研究、資料篇』『五行大義の基礎的研究』『重修緯書集成』（6巻）『五行大義校註』『日本陰陽道書の研究』『五行大義全釈』など。
【石川力山】
1943年宮城県に生まれる。駒沢大学仏教学部禅学科卒業。駒沢大学仏教学部教授。著書は『慧能研究』『作る心食べる心』（共著）など。

菜根譚はまさに人生指南の書です。書かれている内容自体はとても日常的なものであって、決して難しくはありません。
菜根譚を読む度に人生についていろいろ考えさせられます。
とても心にしみます。
是非あなたも読んでみてください。

本書には菜根譚の前集と後集のそれぞれがすべて収録されているので、これから菜根譚を学びたいという人は是非手元に置いておきたい一冊です。

内容は句ごとに、漢語読み下し、漢語、語義、訳文の順で収録されています。
訳文は比較的分かりやすく書かれているので、すんなりと意味を理解できます。

以下は私のお気に入りの項の一つです。

~「耳中つねに耳に逆らうの言を聞き、心中つねに心に払るの事あれば、わずかにこれ徳に進み行いを修むるの砥石なり。もし言々耳を悦ばし、事々心に快ければ、この生を把りて鴆毒のうちに埋在せん」~(菜根譚前集５項)

(たえず耳に痛い忠告や説教を聞き、自分の思い通りにならないような出来事や困難にぶつかってこそ、自分自身を磨き向上させる"砥石"のようなものとなる。もしも自分に都合の良いことばかり聞かされ、思い通りのことばかり起こっていたら、それは毒に侵されているようなものであって、決して自分の為にならない)

『菜根譚』は各社から出ているが、漢文原文、語義、訳文と詳細で、参照しやすい目録を備えたこの学術文庫版は、もっとも便利なもののひとつだと評価できる。「風括かに浪静かなる中に、人生の真境を見、味淡く声希かなる処に、心体の本然を識る」静寂の中にこそ人生の真実を知ることが出来ると説く本書は、儒・仏・道の三教に通じた明代の知識人、洪自成の深い思索に満ちている。まるで現代の精神医学のカウンセリングを先取りしているようである。『菜根譚』の神髄は「中庸」つまり日常生活におけるバランス感覚ではないかと思う。順境の中でも気を許すな。逆境の中でも落ち込むな。人生は諸行無常。一家団欒の中に道は実現している。日頃本書を紐解けば、生活のバランス感覚を取り戻す妙薬になるだろう。

身近な事柄や自然の生業を通し、いかに生くべきかをさまざまな角度から論じた菜根譚。
訳文からイメージをふくらませていく途中で、自分なりに気付きを見つけていくのが楽しい。読むたびに違う気付きがあります。
