国内外においてヒト遺伝子多型の解析が急激に推進されています。おそらく大学や企業の多くの研究者がその理論的背景を勉強する必要性に迫られているのではないでしょうか？

この本の著者は多型研究の中心を担う連鎖解析の第一人者で、著者が開発した手法は、世界中で広く、そして長期に渡って用いられています。その著者が記した原著は、連鎖解析の古典中の古典の教科書で、人類遺伝学者の必読の書です。第３版が出版され、ますますこの本の価値が高まっているといえます。

本書は、日本でかつてから集団遺伝学、遺伝疫学の分野で活躍されていた安田先生と日本のバイオインフォマティックス研究を牽引する五條堀先生が翻訳した豪華な本といえましょう。序文によると原著に見られた若干のエラーも修正しながら翻訳したとありますから、読者にとっては嬉しいことです。

内容は、遺伝子多型解析をおこなう際に、必ず理解しておかなければならない集団遺伝学のエッセンスや、遺伝学の基礎から始まり、連鎖分析の数学的基礎、多点連鎖分析、そしてコンピュータアルゴリズムと多岐にわたっています。また、最近の多型解析で特に使用されているノンパラメトリック解析にも章が割かれています。

この本をよく読んで勉強すれば、今おこなわれているヒト遺伝子多型解析におけるデータ解析手法の根幹となる知識を身に付けることができるでしょう。
