あまりまとまった本ではないのですが、街歩きが好きでまちづくりやマーケティングにも興味のある者として、興味深く読むことができました。
特に、「街」と「都会」の違いのくだりは、普段感じていることをズバリ言っていてくれています。
関西の地名が例として多く出ていますので、なじみのない方にはちょっとピンとこないかもしれませんが(笑

本書でいわれている通り、ガイドブック的な街や店の紹介では語りきれない、味わいつくせない、街・店の持ち味や空気を自分で感じ取る、それこそが街歩きの醍醐味だと思います。
その辺の「感覚」を、うまく地理学的にみていけないかと思っているのですが…今後の課題です(笑
まちづくりの面でもいろいろ示唆にとんだ本かと思いますので、ご興味のわいた方、是非ご一読を。

ミーツ」の元編集長による「街的」という概念を巡る考察。「ミーツ」を愛読している人間ならば著者の言う「街的」の趣旨がぼんやりと理解できると思うが、初読あるいは京阪神居住者でなければ理解しがたい概念かもしれない。しかし、この本には内田樹の素晴らしい解説がある。この解説だけでも一読の価値があると思う。九鬼周三の「『いき』の構造」がこのような形で引用されるとは・・・参りました。

淀川の水を産湯に使い、マルーンの車両を乳母車に使った評者にとって、『ミーツ・リージョナル』の元編集長が挙げる街々には馴染みが深いところが多いし、言われることに同意できることも少なくはない。

にもかかわらず、読めば読むほど、どうしようもなく居心地の悪さを感じてしまう。それは何かと尋ねて思い至るのは、「これはお金持ちが読むべき本であって、私のような貧乏人が読んでいい本ではなかった」という一点であった。

ここで言う「お金持ち」「貧乏人」は所得や貯蓄の多少を指すのではない。お金持ちがここに出てくるようなお店で食事をしているとき、貧乏人はコンビニで買ったパンをかじりながら道を歩いている。

後者が前者に憧れてせっせと知識を仕入れ、お金持ちになるべくあくせくしているとすれば、そいつは「いなかもの」の同類である。だが、街の貧乏人は、「あんな店、興味ない」と思っているだけで、不満があるわけではないのだ。彼らにとって、「行ったことないんか？そんなら連れて行ったろ」と金持ち連中につき合わされようものなら、ひたすらいい迷惑なだけなのである。数々の店を知らずとも、貧乏人は貧乏人なりに、店の外に、道端に、行きかう人の中に、通り過ぎる風の中に、「街的なもの」を感じている。

ミーツの特集がよく使う「お金がない」という言葉に騙されてはいけない。それは「お金持ち基準」における「お金がない」に過ぎない。

要するに、「オレは貧乏人やったんやなぁ…」とこの本を読みながら自覚させられたわけだ。ええ、そんなこと、言われるまでもなくわかってますから。
