「仮想的有能感」の概念を吸収すれば、この本の役目は十分でしょう。著者は若者がダメだと言っているのではなく、仮想的有能感を持たなければ生きていけない時代になってしまったということを言いたいだけでしょう。

若者を中心に議論が展開されているが、
著者の指摘はかなり高い年代まで
広がっていると感じる。
自由、個性、多様性と多元的な
価値観の中で自分の肯定の仕方が
わからなくなっている。

親の子供との向き合い方や、
教育行政にも問題があると思うが、
一人でも多くの人が自覚することが
大切だと感じた。

「若者は○○だから駄目だ」という主張が延々と繰り返される。
それを証明するためには、この10年、20年の間に、若者はどう変わったを、過去と今のデータを比較し、具体的に説明しなければならない。
しかし、この作者はそういう手法をとらず、ただ自分の主観だけを書き綴っている。
例えば、
「昔の子供は、親や教師から発破をかけられ勉強した。だが、今の子供は甘やかされてるのでやる気が無い。」
「ある教師が子供に、自分の長所を答えるよう促した。しかし、子供は言えなかったので、今の若者は自信は無い。」
「昔は、少年よ大志を抱け、なんて言葉があった。しかし、今の若者は大志が無い。」
このように、主張の根拠が乏しい。
時々データを使って説明をするものの、
「アメリカ、スウェーデン、中国の学生は自尊感情が高い。一方、日本の学生は低い。ゆえに、現代の若者は自尊感情が低い。」
日本以外の国のデータを持ち出しても、まったく関係無い。
「昔の大学サークルは、日本拳法部、ヨット部、男声合唱団など、集団で行うものが多かった。だが、今は、弓道部や軽音楽部など、個人で行うものが多い。つまり、現代の若者は個人化した。」
突っ込みどころが多すぎて、もはや何も言えない。
作者は懐古主義に陥ってるだけだろう。このような恣意的な本を書く人間が、国立大学の教授職なのだから、さらに驚く。
帯に騙されないように気をつけてください。
