和田氏が他の著作で述べていました。

大人は、せっかく苦労して地位を得ると

何故か、子どもには楽をさせたいと

考えてしまう。

しかし、これは大きな誤りで、

少なくとも自分と同じくらいの苦労を

子どもに課すのでなければ、

代々人間は劣化してしまうのだ。

その「苦労」させる道具として、

受験勉強は最適である。

とかくマスコミでは、受験勉強の弊害を

言い立てるが、心理学者、そして

受験の勝者である和田氏としては、

心配なく受験勉強を子どもにさせるべきと述べています。

教育関連の新書としてはかなり良いものであると思う。
大学受験を主なテーマとし、受験勉強の取り組みと受験それ自身によって何が身につくかということが内容の中心である。
この著者の書籍はこれまで数多く出版されてきている。
大胆な提言のため、多くの教育者や一般人から批判されてもいる。
ただ、そういった批判の中には著者の思惑と異なる、ある種の誤解から生まれたものがあるのも事実だ。
誤解を解き批判にこたえるため、時間をかけて少しずつ表現の仕方を変えてきたようだ。
その表現の仕方もある程度まで固定的なものになってきているので、「この著者はどの書籍でも似たようなことを書いている」と感じている人はこの本をベースにしてみるといいかもしれない。

　タイトルは「受験勉強の技術」となっていますが、科目別の具体的方法論に関する記述はあまりなく、（そういうものを求める方は和田氏の他の著作を読んだほうがいいでしょう）むしろ、受験勉強の弊害として語られてきた数々の「神話」について、その根拠薄弱なことを具体例と相当数のデータをもって丹念に指摘する「受験勉強論」と言うべき部分が相当の割合を占める本です。それゆえ、受験生本人よりも受験生を指導する立場にある教師・保護者が読むと有益でしょう。
