１章では、論理記号を用いず「ゲーデルの不完全性定理」のイメージを
「パズル」を通して理解できるように構成してある。
この「パズル」が、かなり面白いのである。
自分では、「パズル」の解答を完全に理解しているつもりでも、
解答を口に出して、論理的に説明するのは
思いのほか難しかった。
友人と一緒に問題を解くのが望ましいかも。

２章~３章は、ゲーデルの人生の軌跡と業績を丁寧に説明してある。
４章は、晩年のゲーデルがなぜ｢神の存在論」に行き着いたかの考察がしてある。
最終章、５章では不完全性定理以降の進展が、
理性の限界とどのように関連しているのか説明してある。
参考文献もきちんと整理されて載せてある。

ただ、素人の立場から言わせてもらうと、参考図書の紹介もして欲しかった。
例え、学会で評価されないとしても、
多くの「学者」が一般向けに良書（この本程度の学術水準）を出版されることを望む。

　ある無矛盾の公理系の中にはAを証明できないし、Aの否定も証明できないという命題Aが証明する、というゲーデルの「不完全性定理」をつかみに、ゲーデルの生涯を紹介している。
　不完全性定理は数学の一定理ではあるが、この本を読むかぎり、数学というよりはむしろ国語や論理の話のように思えてくる。

　たぶん、ゲーデルの「不完全性定理」の数式そのものをふつうの人がそのまま理解することは難しいのだろう。その点、この本では「不完全性定理はこのようなイメージのもの」と、捉え方のイメージをあたえてくれる（第I章）。このイメージの説明も、ついていくのがやっとだったが、でも、話の内容自体がおもしろいものだから、どうにか理解しようという気持ちにさせてくれる。
　5章立ての本だが、不完全性定理を初めてかじる人にはこの第I章を把握できれば、この本を読む価値があったといえるんじゃないか。また、不完全性定理がどんなものか知っており、ゲーデルがどんな人だったかを知りたい方は、第I章は“おさらい”にして、第II章以降のゲーデルの生涯について触れた部分を中心に読まれるとよいだろう。

どこかの書評にも出てたけど、数あるゲーデル本の中で一番おもしろかった一冊。なぜゲーデルが不完全性定理に行き着いたのか、彼の哲学人生の苦悩が伝わってくる。調査も文献も詳しいし、ゲーデルに興味ある人には絶対おすすめ！
