この本を読んで性格の類型論や特性論にハマりました。
現在の科学に近づこうとする心理学が流行ってる中では
多少方法論としては古いかもしれませんが
読み物としては純粋に面白かったです。
どうしても考えが合わない人が居たり性別による意見の違いなども
この本を読むと彼らはこういう方向性で物事を考えてたのかと納得出来る様になりました。
また、自分の属すると思われる性格を客観的に分析されるというのは
自分が分析されてるみたいでなかなか楽しかったです。

ユングが当時、どういう学問の背景の中で「内向」と「外向」という対をなす性格類型を唱えるようになったのか、その歴史から説き起こされている。

人の素質の違いを明らかにすることは、無用な誤解や対立を避けることにつながる。それは、小さなことのようで、実は重要なことではないだろうか。人間や思想の根本理解にも関わることかもしれない。

むずかしい前半を我慢して読むと、後半は具体的な分析の実例が豊富で、ユングの類型論の奥深さを楽しむことができる。

外交的感情タイプの若尾文子、内向的感情タイプの大島渚夫人、小山明子、外見に無頓着な内向的直観タイプのコロンボ警部、こうした実名をあげての説明が、面白い。「感情」や「直観」という概念も身近な有名人の例でぐっとわかりやすくなる。

もっとも、時代が過ぎて、「若尾文子って誰よ？」というような話になると、せっかくの慧眼もすこし色褪せるのだろうが。

１９８８年に書かれた本なので、内容が時代遅れ状態。
がしかし、ユングの大著「タイプ論」については問題なく書かれている。しかし、難しい。素人には理解し難いと思われる。

前半はユング本人、それからタイプ論について書かれているので、これが難解だと思う人は読み飛ばして、４章から入っても問題ない。メインはここからだし。

もしくは、タイプ論の"触り"として、前半のみを読むのもそれはそれで良いかも知れない。
