ある種の懐かしさをかもしだす小説です。物語をジャンル分けすることなく、話の流れにそって少しずつ「世界」を発見していた少年時代を思い起こさせてくれるのです。

根拠や論理で求めたら、いまはツッコミどころが満載なのでしょうが、それは野暮というもの。主人公といっしょにドキドキ、ハラハラできる物語の運びは、今の器用な作家たちが失ってしまった童心のなせる業なのかもしれません。

5.0 out of 5 stars 眉村卓のジュナイブＳＦの基本パターン, 2008/3/15
平穏な日常に、異質な存在(異世界人、未来人、異星人、超能力など)が侵入したことで、新たな秩序が形成され、それまでどちらかといえば優等生であった主人公が、そこから排除され、アウトサイダー化する。主人公は、友人たちと力を合わせ、ささやかな抵抗を試みる。それがふとしたきっかけで、思いがけないほど大きなカウンターとなり、かろうじて敵を撃退する。主人公は、すべてが終わった後、彼らは、彼らなりの信念に基づいて行動していたことを理解し、自分とは相容れない考え方とは思いつつも、心に留める。
　眉村卓の主人公は、インドア派が主流で、迷い悩みながらためらいつつ、追い詰められて行動を起こすパターンが多く、あまり爽快感は得られないが、そのことが妙なリアリティを生み、共感が得られる。主人公なのに、傍観者的なポジションに陥る弱点があり、「とらえられたスクールバス」が特に顕著である。眉村ジュブナイルＳＦのうち、最長かつ最良の作品であるにかかわらず、影が薄い。
　ジュブナイルＳＦの代表作は、近年評価の高い、「ねじれた町」だろう。眉村作品のあらゆる特徴をそなえながら、後半に至って主人公が圧倒的な力を発揮して、物語を展開してゆく様は爽快である。
