マザー・テレサについて書かれた本はたくさんあるけれど、
これ一冊でマザー・テレサの思いがしっかり伝わってきます。

講演で話したことをそのまま原稿にしているので同じ事を何度も読むことになりますが、
読む度に新鮮で力強く感じる彼女の言葉に圧倒されます。
マザー・テレサは既にこの世にいませんが、言葉はずっと生きています。
それをすごく実感できる内容です。

マザー・テレサについての書籍は日本語でも多く出版されています。大半が伝記の体裁をとっているなか、本書は彼女の肉声を知ることができる数少ない本です。彼女の行ってきたことは、並大抵の精神力では不可能ですが、そのへんの彼女の強い精神力が、この本から読み取れます。そして、その彼女を支えていたのが何であるかも、伝わってきます。

神が存在するという、絶対的な証拠。それは、やはり《マザー・テレサ》だろう。無神論者、あるいは反神論者だった私を、《神を信じる者》へと一瞬で変えてしまったのが、《マザー・テレサ》のこの本である。宗教や宗派を越えた《真実の神》の存在を、一瞬にして悟らせてしまった《マザー》の力は偉大である。この本は、そういう意味で、《マザー》から無神論者へと贈られた《心優しき挑戦状》とも言える。
