短編集。収録作品は以下の通り。「ナポレオン狂」、「来訪者」、「サン・ジェルマン伯爵考」、「恋は思案の外」、「裏側」、「甲虫の遁走曲」、「ゴルフ事始め」、「捩れた夜」、「透明魚」、「蒼空」、「白い歯」、「狂暴なライオン」、「縄」。

短編集全体としては、「冷蔵庫より愛をこめて」の方が、奇抜なアイディアの話が多く、粒がそろっているように思う。
ただし、「ナポレオン狂」は著者の代表作で、おそらく最高傑作。実は私にとっては、この本とは別に読んだ、初めての阿刀田作品。ナポレオンのうんちく話かと思ったら、最後の最後の意外な、衝撃的なオチに、みぞおちを突かれたような気がした。
「来訪者」はものすごく怖い話。読んでいる間は背筋がぞわぞわし、読み終わると心底からぞっとする。現実には絶対起こらないとは言えないのが、とても怖い。赤ちゃんを持つお母さんは、読まない方がいいかも…。

　面白かったです！！阿刀田さんの著書は、ノンフィクション(聖書やギリシャ神話の解説エッセイ）しか読んだことがなかったのですが、小説でもまた、彼らしいオシャレさとエスプリが存分に生きています。

　発想や着眼点は、始めは星新一さんに似ていると思ったのですが、何の変哲もない日常生活の中にさりげなく紛れ込んだ恐怖の描き方は阿刀田さんお得意のもの、という印象を受けました。とにかく彼のホラー小説の怖さは、決してグロテスクな化け物や殺人鬼が出てくるからではないんです。一見普通に見える人が、実は心の中で殺人計画を立てて笑っていたり･･･といった描写が、すごく怖い。そういう意味で、全く新しい感覚のホラー小説です。

　珠玉の短編集．物語は最後の最後でどんでん返しを迎えることもあれば，淡々と終わるものもある．ブラックなものからミステリアス，ファンタスティックなもの等中身は様々．お試しあれ．
