これは文句なしにおもしろい。
リアリズムを追求してやまない有吉の筆が、冴え渡る。
あまりの臨場感に、私などは和宮オタクとなってしまった。
大竹しのぶと岡田奈々というキャストでドラマ化されたのは周知であるが、ドラマにすると、原作のリアリズムには遠くおよばない。
有吉のリアリズムは、人間にとって欠かせざる行為である「食事」「排泄」「身づくろい」をこれでもかというくらいしつこく描く。「しょせん人間は生き物よ」という声が聞こえてきそうだ。
人間を隠すという場合に最も問題になるのが「食事」と「排泄」。そこを中心に描くことによって、臨場感はゆるぎないものとなる。
私は「替え玉」問題については、現在は「フィクション」と思っている。
主な理由は、徳川慶吉の助命のために和宮が書いたという自筆の手紙、これに尽きる。
この時代はテープレコーダーもなく、和宮が印璽を持っていたというわけでもない。
助命嘆願の手紙の効力とは、その真贋にかかっているわけだ。
書に優れていたという和宮本人が書いたものでなければ、相手にされない。
そんな中に、天皇本人にあてて手紙を書く、というのは、和宮が本人であったからだ。
片手問題や小児マヒについては、我々の想像を超えたなんらかの回答があるのだと思う。
だいたい、墓にあった人骨が和宮本人だという証拠はないではないか。
ロマンがひとつ消えてしまった気がするが、それでも有吉の「御留」の世界は残る。和宮オタクである私は、「御留」に書かれていない「和宮の江戸城生活」にも大いに興味があるが、そこを省いてもなお素晴らしいこの作品。
ラスト、少進が駆けつける場面は、涙なしに読むことができない。

歴史上の事実なのか、はたまた空想なのか…
読んでいるうちにはまり込んでしまう作品です。
はたして和宮と言う人物は本物だったのでしょうか…？
「天障院篤姫」上下とあわせて読むと物語に深みが出て
良いと思います。

読み終わってからいろいろ考えさせられる本です。
暗く静まり返った公家屋敷、ヒンプクピンプク言いながら行き来する公卿、閉ざされた世界。
それ故に可能だった和宮のすり替え。
フキはまさに人身御供となった末に打ち捨てられてしまうのですが、あんなにフキに優しく接していた唯一の乳母少進も最後に彼女を思い出すことはなかったようです。
フキは身代わりというよりも単なる代替品で人間扱いされることなく忘れ去られてしまったのです。
時代の流れに踏み潰された少女の物語がフィクションでなく、本当にこんなことがあったのかも？とドキドキします。

この本が発表された当時は和宮の真偽に賛否両論沸いていたようですが、結局どうなのか今ならＤＮＡ鑑定でもなんでもできそうな気がするのですが･･･。
この議論はまだされているのでしょうか？
それとももう決着ついているんでしょうか。（私が知らないだけ？）
