5.0 out of 5 stars 大人も一緒に”かぞえてみよう”, 2000/11/26
絵の美しさ・細やかさに定評のある作者による、季節感あふれる村の移り変わり。何もないところから始まり、少しずつ形作られる村の中に、たくさんの”数”を発見する喜び。文字による語りのない”絵本”ですが、”お話”は読み手の心の中に自然とわき上がってきます。子供と一緒に楽しむだけでなく、大人にとっても”人々の営み”について思いをはせられる、美しい絵本です。

　数に関して安野さんはかなりこだわりがあるようです。こういった絵本の形で子供が自然に「数の概念」を学んでくれるとうれしいものです。ページごとに１~１２までの各数字が数えられる具体的な事物として描写されています。ありとあらゆるものがそのページに見合った同じ数で徹底して描かれているのですが、同時に美しいヨーロッパの田舎の風景と季節の変化が楽しめるようになっています。

　今から１０年近く前になりますが、同じく安野さんの「ペペロン村の四季」のCD-ROMがあってそれを子供と一緒に楽しんでいたのを思い出します。CD-ROMではインタラクティブに絵本の世界に入り込めるので、子供が興味を持ちやすく、安野さんの世界に入るに当たっての抵抗は全くなかったようです。他の本の宣伝をするみたいで申し訳ない感じですが「ペペロン村の四季」は子供が興味を持って村作りに取り組んでくれました。本として考えると少々値が張りますが、結構優れものです。

　ほぼ同じ頃にこの本（＝かぞえてみよう）も買ってあげました。この本は1975年発刊ですから、同じく安野さんの「はじめてであう すうがくの絵本」などと同様に約２０年後のペペロン村の原型ともいえましょう。

０から１２まで、見開きのページごとにいろいろなものを数えるだけでなく、1月から12月までの季節の移ろい、時間の変化、細々と描きこまれた村の風景にみどころはいろいろです。まだ数えるには早い小さい子とも、動物などをみつけたり、絵に合わせた歌をいろいろ歌ったり、お話しをつくったりしてじゅうぶんに楽しめます。そういう風にいっしょにくりかえしながめているうちに、数の対応に気がつくようになる、というのが最高だな、と思います。
