5.0 out of 5 stars 「科学」だけではない「新しい見方・考え方」を示す本, 2006/4/17

ありふれた表現であらわすならば「目から鱗が落ちた」本である。
それまで「科学技術」に対して抱いていた自らの考えを、
ものの見事に打ち砕いてくれた。
本当にぐうの音も出なかった。

それほどまでに自分の考えを否定されたのに、
読後の満足度は最高だった。なぜか？
本書が、新しい「物事の見方・考え方」を
提示してくれたからではないか。

タイトルには「科学論」とあるが、
その言葉から受けるイメージよりも本書の対象範囲は広い。
広くどんなことにも通用する「新しい物事の見方・考え方」を
提示してくれる本なのだ。
そしてもちろんそれは「新しい」だけではない。

私がこの本に出会ったのは確か大学4年のときなので、
もう15年以上も前だ。
何をきっかけにして読み始めたかは覚えていないが、
おそらく偶然本屋で手にとったくらいだろう。
今ではその偶然に本当に感謝している。

これまでにもたくさんの人にこの本を薦めてきたが、
このAmazonのレビューを読んで、
一人でも多くの人が本書を読んでくれると嬉しい。


最後に雑談。
レビューの冒頭で「物事が突然良く見えて理解できたこと」
をあらわす表現として「目から鱗が落ちた」と書いたが、
この「目から鱗が落ちた」と言う表現は実は適切でない。
なぜ適切でないかは、本書を読んでのお楽しみだ。

少し古い本ですが
1章の現在の科学論は今もかわらずみんなの頭にあるし
2章の新しい科学論は今見ても全く新しい
自分は少しは科学論、その哲学に深い考察を持っていると
勝手に思い込んでいましたがそれは全部既存のものであり
新しい論は全く未知の、実に新鮮なものでした
私は文系の、数学や理科の苦手な学生ですが
それでも読みやすく、こういった本には珍しく
先が気になって一気に読んでしまいました

現代文や世界史、英語の長文でも頻出テーマの科学論
それらの背景知識として抜群の威力を発揮してくれます
また科学が引き起こした問題に対峙するとき
そしてこの資本主義社会、それに属す自分を見つめるときに
バイブルとして役立つはずです

科学とか読んでおきたいけど難しそう、と敬遠している人も
是非この一冊だけは絶対にオススメします

この本は、実際に自然科学の研究に従事している科学者も読むべきだと思う。「真理を追究するために研究している」と思っている研究者こそ読むべきだと思う。

自分が考えている“真理”という言葉が、如何にあやふやな言葉であるかを思い知る事ができるだろう。

この本は、まず、科学に対する常識的な捉え方を説明する。次にその捉え方に対し、二つの観点から批判していく。

一つは文化史的観点から。たとえば、科学とは宗教から切り離されたものであるという常識的な捉え方に対し、ニュートンやコペルニクスは熱心なキリスト教信者であったからこそ、重要な発見が出来たのだと主張する。

二つ目は、認識論的観点という、もっとシビアな観点から。一般的な科学者が主張する「客観的データ」なるものは存在するか？　データから理論が作られるのか？　科学の進歩とは何か？　データの蓄積からあたらしい科学が作られるのか？　

科学とは極めて人間的な行為である。「科学の進歩」の背景には、科学という一分野の内側だけの発展ではなく、人類全体のものの捉え方の革命があると本書は主張している。
