時計と時計の歴史に興味のある中年の会社員です。
２００６年の夏休みにａｍａｚｏｎから購入して、
付属の機械式時計のキットを組みました。
釣具屋で鉛の重りを何種類か買ってきて、調整を楽しんでいます。
時計は、電気は使わずに重りのさがる力を利用して
すこしづつ歯車が動き、時針が１２時間で１回転します。
簡単ですが良くできた仕組みです。
６００年以上の昔に欧州で発明された初期の機械式時計の
仕組みなのですが良くできています。
大きさもちょうどよく、動いている歯車などの内部がすべて見えます
のでとても良いです。読み物も良かったです。

時計作りの技術は、現在の工業技術の基礎を築いたといったも過言ではない。そんな機械時計の歴史やメカニズムが豊富な写真と図で詳しく掲載されている。機械時計マニアにとって一つのバイブルとなる思う。（ロレックス分解図あり）

なんといっても付録の時計キットが魅力的で、簡単に組み立てることが出来るが調整次第ではかなり正確な時計として実用性もある。歯車剥き出しのデザイン性と動くオブジェとしても魅力的である。

その他「ＤＩＹ風力発電」や「手作りロケット」「鉱物採取」などバラエティな内容となっている。
