　このシリーズは内容が薄いとよく書かれているが、この「アルデンヌ」だけはとても読みやすくよく出来た内容ではないかと思う。戦い自体も刹那のような短さでアッという間に敗退した中味の薄い作戦（戦死者には申し訳ないけど）でしかなかったバルジの戦いを、うまく1冊に捉えていると思う。良かったのは「V１」「V２」ロケットの項があるところで、なけなし感はあるけどここへ来て急に一撃必勝兵器オンパレードの末期第三帝国が堪能できる。破壊されたヴィルベルヴィントや暁へ飛び立つMe262など、渋い写真も満載である。だけど写真のキャプション違いは、ほとんど素人の私でもわかるぜ。ノリで編集してたのかな。

私は専門家ではないが、戦争関係の書籍は意外に少ない。学研の歴史mookに共通したことが、写真や図表を特に前半部分にうまく使い、一般の読者には興味を持ちやすい構成となっており、個人的には好感を持って読めた。ただし、一般に歴史は様々な見方あったり、事実関係が実ははっきりしない場合も多いものだが。よくできている分、読むと分かったつもりになってしまうのが難点か。
