巻頭に１５ページ程最新の香水を紹介するカラーページがあって、
エルメスやロシャスの最新作など非常にタイムリーなのですが、
後はずっと活字。
やはり香水のカタログ本ではなくて教科書」ですから。
香水の上手な付け方選び方から始まって、香りの分類や
コラム的なお話など、タイトルを裏切らない充実ぶりです。

こうした本にありがちな個別の香料の歴史のような読み物はないのが
好印象でした。とにかく香水を「使い倒す」ための考えどころが
満載な感じです。

香水に関して自分は初級だ、もっと知りたいという方はもちろんのこと
結構自分は知ってるつもり、な人も初心に帰って読んでみると
ちょっとした発見があるかもしれません。

個人的には「あの日に還りたい」というコラムがぐっときました。

香水は大好きで、24時間欠かしません。よく香水の本も読んでます。毎年香水図鑑も欠かさず買ってます。その香水図鑑でも評論されている榎本さんの著書で、評判が良いので買ってみました。
読み進めるうちに、榎本さんのプロフィールとかあまり知らなかったので、こういう方だったんだ！！と新鮮な驚きでした（笑）。内容は、香水に関して基本的なことを網羅した上で、４つの香りを使い分けるなど新しい提案をなさってます。初心者でも中級者でも楽しめると思います。また、香水をカテゴライズしている活字中心の本って古本でしか見つからず、ここ10年くらいに新しく出た香水は掲載されてませんでした。こちらは最近の香水もカテゴライズしてて、とても嬉しかったです。
最近よくありがちな何百本と載せている香水カタログと比べると、香水を学びたい♪という方にオススメの一冊だと思います。本当に教科書ですね。

近年、日本でも香水は普及してきましたが、香水のつけ方、楽しみ方などに関してはあまり知られていないと思います。香りの分類のページなど、香水を買うときに役立つようなヒントが満載でした。一冊手元においておけば、香水の楽しみがぐっとひろがるような、実用的な本だと思います。
