子どもって、どうしてこんなに雪が好きなんでしょう。
大人になると、遊びのとき以外は邪魔者にしか思わないのに。
空から降りて来る不思議な訪問者だからでしょうか。
この本の子うさぎも、遊びたくてうずうずしている様子がよく分かります。

夜になって、もう寝る時間なのに「ちょっとだけね」と言って外に出してくれるおかあさん。
そこには『きつねのかみさま』に出て来たハイヒールを履くようなおかあさん（靴しか登場しませんが）ではなく、
長靴を履いていっしょに遊んでくれるおかあさんがいます。

雪の日のどんよりとした感じや、さまざまな暗さが夜にはあるのですが、
酒井さんの「黒」は、いつもその雰囲気がよく表されていると思います。
それに、こうさぎのベストや長靴、おかあさんの手袋などに使われている黄色が、
ふたりの心の暖かさを感じさせてくれます。

おはなしプーカ2004年12月号の単行本化です。
お持ちの方は、表紙の絵が違うことも楽しめますよ。

絵本では人間を動物に置き換えて表現することが良くありますが、
選ぶ動物によって作品から伝わってくる印象が、大きく変わってきます。

よく登場するのは犬。実生活でも人間との距離が近く、親しみやすい万能の
動物といえます。犬というグループの中での描き分けもしやすいですね。
また登場頻度では猫も多い。犬に比べると、シャレた感じや神秘性が
加わるように思います。

本作で描かれている動物はウサギ。人間との距離感をみると、犬や猫ほど
ベッタリしてなく、かといってブタやオオカミのように寓話的なところへ
行ってしまうこともない。ウサギは微妙なところに居ます。

つまり、都会のマンションに住む人間同士のような付かず離れずの距離感
とでも言いましょうか。そう考えると、鉄筋コンクリートの中で生活する
ウサギの親子は、とてもリアリティがあり、現代人の一面をうまく捕らえて
いると言えるでしょう。

登場するのは、ママと男の子だけ。
朝から夜まで降りつづける大雪は、２人きりの世界を決定的なものにしています。
交通機関も遮断され、園や買い物にも行けず、パパも帰っては来ず。
男の子にとっては、いつもと違う特別な一日となりました。

ママをひとりじめした男の子からは、恋愛関係の甘さにも似た絶妙な親子の
距離感を感じました。ふぅーむ、酒井作品ならではの味わいですネ。

雪を通して、親子を描いた作品で記憶に新しいのは、
大島妙子作『おかあさんおかあさんおかあさん…』があります。
光と影のごとく対照的なので、ぜひ読み比べてみてください。

雪が降っていて本当に寂しい感じの
絵なんですけど、子ウサギの愛らしさや
おかあさんの描かれ方が心を暖めてくれます。

酒井さんの独特の世界観がナゾやなぁ･･･
って思わされる部分ちょこちょこあるのですが
なんか惹かれてしまう、そんな絵本です。

ちなみに子どもは寂しげとか独特とか
関係ないみたいで雪の日の話としてめちゃ楽しんで読んでいます。
