チョコレートから連想する甘さ、ほろ苦さ、あるいはブランデーやリキュールの芳醇な香りなど、それら様々な要素が詰まった素敵な本でした。上質の大人向けのファンタジーだと思います。単に甘いだけの物語に終わらない点が、良い意味で読後の余韻につながりました。それに、一つの街で起きた出来事を、全く立場の異なる二人の人間の視点から交互に語らせるという手法も面白かったと思います。特に女性にはお薦めではないでしょうか。ただ、チョコレートをはじめ、お菓子や料理の描写の数々には少々困りました。ダイエット中の方には不向きです。

This is a story of a mother and her daughter who are, after a long quest for a life, going to settle in a small town in the countryside of France. Each step of their struggle to live natural and to be happy affects the conservative people in the town to the climax of Easter Sunday. This book gives readers some comfort and tells them how splendid it is to live. Sweets are mightier than the sword.

　フランスのとある村で繰り広げられるお話。主人公であるヴィアンヌと彼女
の手作りチョコレートを売る店を中心にお話は繰り広げられていきます。
ヴィアンヌだけでなく登場人物の一人一人はいい味をだしています。彼らの生活や発する言葉はあたたかくてやさしくて、そして自身に語りかけてきます。
チョコレートを中心に人間の善と悪、人生の歩み方、文化、過去の記憶など様々なものが入り混じって構成されており、読んでいて楽しかったです。
　そして、ヴィアンヌがつくるお菓子がとってもとっても美味しそうに表現されてて、読むと必ず甘いものがほしくなりました。
