この本は沢山の「敵」と対峙している。
「敵」と対峙すること、何かを守ること、こうした「責任を果たす」
という行為は本当にしんどい。そしてこうした「しんどさ」を回避することそのものが、本書の最大の「敵」なのである。斉藤環はそこを責められているということを果たして理解しただろうか。「ぬるいリベラル」が姑息に他者＝肯定を繰り返してメディア世界を泳いでいき、ゆくゆくそれが自己肯定につながる文化、それが批判されているのだ。
本書は、「戦時下」における「敵」と「味方」をはっきりさせようという試みである。したがってこれまで以上に大塚は厳しく、「嫌だ」とおもうひともそりゃいよう。でも考えてほしい。そもそも言論って厳しいもんなんですよ。そんな甘ったれたもんじゃないからこそ、弾圧もされてきたし、弾圧されたって必死書き綴られたんでしょう。だから「嫌だ」と思う感性がぬるいんです。きちんとした批判＝批評もできないから、ネットをかさにきた夜郎自大サブカル知識人が跋扈するわけです。
ではナショナリストは国家に責任をもっている「偉い人たち」なのでしょうか。とんでもない、というのが本書のもうひとつのテーマ。現行憲法九条を高く掲げるほうが、自慰行為としてのナショナリストであるよりも理想主義的であり、ロマン主義的であり、実は「おたく」のある側面から引き出されうるものであるというのが、その論旨。
そうかもしれないし、そうじゃないかもしれないが、こういう世間ではいまのところ全く受けないうちだしを勇気をもってやったことにとにかく5点。

多分、あまり高評価を得られない書物であるとは思う。特にこの中で評されている作品群が好きな人たちや、あるいは「大塚のしゃべりが嫌味」などという人物に対する嫌悪感をいだく人もいるだろう。しかし、しっかりと内容を見据えるならば、問題は個々の作品や人物像の好悪などではなく、もっと大きな枠組みの中にあることが本当は分かるはずだ。
大塚英志が斉藤環になぜキレているのかと言えば、斉藤環の「態度」に問題があるからだ。別に斉藤環が失礼な人間であるという意味ではなく、「批評的」な「態度」を斉藤が欠いているということである。そしてこの本を評価しない人たちもおそらくは「批評的」な「態度」を欠いていることに疑いはない。
緩やかに、しかし確実に、そして自発的に、いま僕たちが戦前の歴史を繰り返している、という事実をはっきりと認識しなければならない。
「おたく論」としての本書に、ナショナリスティックな自己肯定を求めて購入した人はその意味で期待はずれであろう。そして、それで正しいのである。
