量子物理学を基軸とした物語というふれこみに引きつけられ、読んでしまいましたが、下巻の中盤あたりからなんだか雲行きが怪しくなり・・・あれだけの文献を参考にし、素人には意味不明の科学用語を羅列した割には、肝心な所で稚拙なほころびを露呈したり、宇宙の消滅と個人的事情を結びつけるなど、こじつけが目だった作品です。
また、父の絶筆原稿を発見した際は、筆者の取材における観光案内としか思えない内容を長々と列記するなど、構成的にも疑問が残り・・・物語の整合性もあまりなく、残念です。
リングの第三作、ループもそうでしたが、筆者はどうやら、作品の背景を壮大にしなければ気が済まないようですね。
過去の短編ホラー集のような秀作を期待します。

途中、あたかも物語全体がハードSFからラノベに相転移でもしたかのような衝撃を覚えました。

集団失踪事件から、日本だけに及ばず各国で異常事態が起きてゆく下巻。
相転移の波が光速を超えて地球に及ぶという理論が導き出されるのはいいが、主人公である冴子と父である眞一郎の関係が最後まで解せないまま終わった。
サイエンス誌に相手にされなかった虚像である小説を描いたというよりも、娘からのオマージュを求めた作品になり下がったように感じる終わり方で納得できないのだ。
よってエピローグが全く意味をなさなく終わった。
